Call for Papers

Announcing a speical issue of

THE IEEE JOURNAL OF OCEANIC ENGINEERING
October 2001

The October 2001 issue of the IEEE JOURNAL OF OCEANIC ENGINEERING will be devoted to High-Frequency ( > 1 kHz) Sediment Acoustics and Associated Sediment Properties and Processes. Papers are solicited on acoustic and environmental measurements and modeling pertaining to high-frequency (HF) scattering from, penetration into, and propagation within shallow water sediments. Papers on environmental measurements or modeling need not include acoustic components, but it is encouraged that environmental papers discuss relevance to acoustic measurements or modeling. Specific topics of interest include the following:

Monostatic and bistatic scattering (and reflection) from the seafloor; scattering from discrete scatterers (e.g., shells); scattering from biological scatterers in the water column.
Acoustic penetration into seafloor sediments, especially at subcritical grazing angles.
Acoustic detection of buried object.
Propagation within sediments: attenuation and effects of volume scattering.
Models (e.g., Biot) for propagation in sediments, and importance to scattering.
Measurement and modeling of sediment physical, chemical, and biological properties and processes that pertain to HF sediment acoustics (e.g., sediment roughness, sediment heterogeneity, Biot model parameters, sediment microstructure, bioturbation).

The deadline for submission of papers is 1 March 2001. Papers should be submitted to:
